Gila River Youth Council

About Youth Council

The Akimel O'odham/Pee-Posh Youth Council is a program designed for young people between the ages of 13-21. The purpose of the program is to provide the youth a voice but also to help them find their voice and build the confidence to use their voice. The Youth Council Members go through training in the following areas: culture & language, ethics, self-esteem building, project management, & more. The members are also responsible for representing their peers at the community, state, & national levels. If you have a young person who is interested in learning more about their community and is willing to challenge themselves, this is the perfect program for them.

The Akimel O'odham/Pee-Posh Youth Council hosts several events throughout the year: Annual Gila River Youth Conference, Annual Gila River Close Up Event, Annual Youth Meeting, Annual Youth Council Inauguration, & district events.
