It also has a long-standing agreement with neighboring Ak-Chin Indian Community to house its pre and post adjudicated juvenile offenders. DRS provides the tribal court and law enforcement a full-service jail/detention program that can effectively maintain custody of most detainees, pre-adjudicated, and sentenced offenders from the point of the initial intake up to 10 years. Only critical medical care needs prelude DRS from accepting qualified inmates.
The juvenile physical plant consists of just over 35,000 sq. ft. and offers classrooms, recreational areas, a cultural garden, and a library as a part of its unique design structure. The adult facility physical plant consists of just over 97,000 sq. ft. and offers unique features such as a traditional roundhouse, a covered basketball court, and a state of the art surveillance system. With such a large footprint to cover, staffing demands are significant.
