Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project

About Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project

The Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project (P-MIP) was established by Community Council Resolution GR-43-95 and its mission is to develop and construct a water delivery system for the beneficial use of Community water resources. To fulfill this mission, P-MIP is planning, designing, and constructing a water delivery system that will enable the Community to use its settlement and existing water resources principles in developing this delivery system in order to ensure the continuity of the Community's traditional economy of agriculture.

The P-MIP is made up of several offices, including the Design, Construction and Engineering section which oversees design, construction, engineering and surveying. P-MIP also includes a Realty and Public Involvement section, a Management Information Systems section, Office Management section, and a Contract Specialists/Accountant section. Each of the section heads reports to the Director of P-MIP.

During the past three years (through December 31,2011), P-MIP devoted over ninety-two percent of its revenue to constructions activities, including construction and design, right-of-way, and cultural and environmental clearances. P-MIP is federally funded with revenue coming through the Community's Settlements Act of 2004. Since its inception, P-MIP has expended over $240,000,000 on construction. P-MIP's long range goals include: restoring the use of water to the Pima and Maricopa people; putting Pima and Maricopa rights to the water to beneficial use; and demonstrating and exercising sound management to ensure continuity of the Community's traditional economy of agriculture.
